Laser Stretch Mark Removal Cost

One of the most uncomfortable topics of being a woman can be those embarrassing stretch marks that a woman can get after pregnancy. Caused when the skin is stretched too far and too fast, stretch marks are ugly reminders that there was once a baby in the oven. A woman who once may have loved going to the beach or the gym is now forced to cover up for fear that someone will see those darned unattractive scars.

There Is Hope!

Fortunately there is help. Recent advances in laser stretch mark removal procedures have given thousands of women hope that they may one day be able to wear a teeny bikini again at the beach or go to the gym in their tight fitting, belly baring exercise outfit. The newer laser removal techniques produce excellent results for the majority of patients and give them healthier, younger looking skin.

How Laser Treatment Works

A technique employing an Excimer laser, similar to that used in LASIK eye surgery, was approved by the FDA about 10 years ago.  It is designed to treat stretch marks and other skin blemishes by removing layers of scarred skin. The idea behind laser stretch mark removal is to create a number of vertical injuries to the patient’s skin with non-treated, uninjured skin in between the treated areas. The laser makes very small cuts that are the diameter of a hair shaft, leaving normal, untreated skin in between the cuts. The untreated skin then helps heal the wound quickly, replacing the area with new, healthy skin.

How Much Does Laser Stretch Mark Removal Cost?

The main question now for most women is; how much does laser stretch mark removal cost? This is a good question as the prices vary widely and may not be affordable for some.  In fact the cost of stretch mark removal may vary as much as $1,000 from one clinic to another, depending on where you live and the type of clinic that you use for the procedure.

Factors to Consider

The price of laser stretch mark removal depends on a number of factors. The prevalence of the stretch marks is important, as having more and/or deeper stretch marks will take more time to remove and therefore cost more money.

The experience and expertise of the surgeon and their location play a major role in the cost of laser stretch mark removal. In a small town in the mid-west, it will normally cost much less than in a surgical laser removal boutique in Beverly Hills, Ca.

The time period is also a factor, as ‘fresh’ stretch marks are far easier to remove than stretch marks that a person has had for many years.  Laser stretch mark removal costs for younger women may also be less than for older women because the skin is younger, more elastic and will heal quicker and easier.

How Long Will It Take?

Laser treatment for stretch marks normally requires several sessions, sometimes as many as 10 or even more depending on the severity of the marks. Broadly speaking, costs range from $250 to $1,700 per treatment and the total treatment expenses could range from $2,500 to $8,500.  The national average cost of laser stretch mark removal is $5,500 for the entire procedure. In most clinics there are a number of choices for payment, including payment plans for the entire procedure which may reduce the cost significantly. Package deals are also available in some clinics.

So while there is hope for those who suffer from stretch marks, the cost of removing them with lasers is definitely a factor that needs to be investigated. If the cost of laser stretch mark removal is prohibitive you then will have to look into other remedies for those embarrassing marks.
